Out of Hibernation

After a continual 11 years of playing I made the decision to have an extended break between January and March. This has not only been good for health reasons, but has given me time to reflect on Northern Star, it’s past, and future. As one of Scotland’s longest running wedding and function bands, I have to constantly think of ways to keep what we do current and appealing to our customers.

Musically, we’re making some big changes to our set, some of the tunes we play EVERY night have been in there since day one, and with changing tastes we need to cut some of those out of rotation, and add some new stuff. We’re always going to veer towards the rocky side of things, but last year I enjoyed adding a few more pop and dance tunes, and giving them the NStar “spin”, so going into 2016 we’re planning on more. (Stay tuned for demos!).

At the end of 2015 we did a mammoth run of gigs at the Apex in Dundee for their Christmas party nights, which was a total blast. Big audiences every night, great sound, and the hotel events team really looked after us, and I hope we return. Playing the same set every night without break really helped me see what is actually working very well, as opposed to what’s kinda working some nights.

Anyway, I’m hugely looking forward to 2016, we’ve got more gigs booked than ever, partly to do with the video we shot last year and I’m planning on a full “LIVE” video very soon. We’ve also received loads of messages about another showcase, and next week we’ll be looking into that and hopefully have something before the end of March. The last one in November at the excellent Wicked Lounge was a huge success.

So, let us know what YOU’D like to hear us play this year, what’s your “jam”, guilty pleasure, that tune that gets you going, we’d love to get some suggestions…
